Carnation clutch

Natural leather clutch with hand strap. Cotton lining. Hand embroidered with natural silk thread. The flower embroidered on this piece is identified in an 18th century quilt, in the center of the floral composition that adorns the central border of this piece.

Flowers are one of the motifs that most characterize Castelo Branco embroidery, and the carnation is an essential element in most compositions. Represented in different ways, it always appears with jagged-edged petals. This element is a symbol of strength, virility and provocation.
