Albarrada I kimono

Long linen kimono with front patch pockets. Long sleeves. The back features a reinterpretation of a traditional albarrada, hand-embroidered with natural silk thread. The front pockets also have a flower embroidered by hand with natural silk thread.
Albarrada is an Arabic word meaning an clay pot, with or without handles, used to cool water or as a flower vase. This is a frequent theme in Castelo Branco embroidery, usually appearing in the center of quilts. From an oriental perspective, this theme represents a symbol of fertility. From a more erudite perspective, it is associated with the virtue of hope. In Castelo Branco embroidery, its meaning is neither certain nor consensual; however, it is accepted as a symbol of the family.
